The Daily Herald, out of Arlington Heights, IL, has an article about the proposed Center of the Northshore in Nrothbrook, IL (see: He sets sights on building mixed-use community).
This is a proposed mixed-use development at the corner of Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road in Northbrook. Development would feature 36,000 square feet of office space, 210,000 square feet of retail, a Hyatt Place Hotel and 74 condominiums.
The developer desires a European feel to the complex:
Born in Ukraine, [Edward] Renko, 45, grew up in Europe and recalls walking everywhere and socializing with neighbors along the way.
“When I came here, I realized that because people here all want their own plot of land and value their privacy, in most communities there is no place to go and just hang out and meet people. There is a clear lack of that in the United States and while I have gotten used to it, I have never forgotten what it felt like in Europe to have places like this to socialize,” he said.
“Our idea is to have one place where people can eat, relax, shop, go to the movies, work out at the health club, dine with an out-of-town guest who is staying at the hotel, ice skate during the winter and so forth,” Renko said.
Ideas seem pretty ambitious for such a parcel of land that isn’t all that big (by comparision to other lifestyle center developments). Development would occupy the blue lined area on this map:

The Daily Herald lists EAG Capital as the developers behind the project, but the website for Atlas Partners, LLC has all of the details, including site plan, aerial, and the artist rendering:

Developers hope to break ground in May with a Fall 2008 opening date.
